Zimbabwe's Spiritual Climate

70% of Zimbabwe's population lives in rural villages, just like what Moffat saw.

"I have seen, at different times, the smoke
of a thousand villages -- villages whose
people are without Christ, without God,
and without hope in the world."
Robert Moffat
African Traditional Religion, also known as ancestor worship, is more than a religion -- it's a worldview that distorts every area of their lives, gripping hearts with fear and keeping people in darkness. Natural phenomena, good fortune, health, and wealth are attributed to spirits. Totems, spells, curses, and amulets to ward off evil are a daily part of the darkness they live in. People will go to a clinic seeking medical help, but they will also go visit the witch doctor.
Mosowe Cult
Self-proclaimed prophets gather followers by prophesying, casting out demons and indoctrinating them with false teaching for their own personal gain.

Our Ministry
"To open their eyes, and to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan unto God..." Acts 26:18
Our greatest desire is to reach Zimbabweans with the gospel.
There is a well-known statement: "Christianity in Africa is a mile wide but only an inch deep." We have to be watchful against syncretism—the merging of two belief systems, creating one new belief system.

Just like how the people will go to a medical clinic and the witch doctor, many Zimbabweans try to add Jesus to their ancestral beliefs. Yet the Bible declares that true faith must be in Jesus Christ alone! If anything is added to the gospel, it perverts the truth and creates a false message.
Paul admonishes in Galatians 1:7-8 “I marvel that you are turning away so soon from Him who called you in the grace of Christ, to a different gospel, which is not another; but there are some who trouble you and want to pervert the gospel of Christ."
Mindful of this problem in Zimbabwe :
-
we teach the Bible thoroughly, laying the foundation for the gospel to be understood,
-
we identify points of confusion in the minds of the listeners and clarify the Truth, (Paul experienced a similar problem in Acts 14:12ff)
-
and it is a great joy when people truly understand the gospel and fully place their trust in Jesus Christ alone!

Another emphasis in our ministry is 1-on-1 Discipleship.
-
teaching the basics of doctrine,
-
how to live the Christian life,

-
and importantly, we believe it should include life-on-life living.
In other words, walking alongside a young believer and helping them understand how God's Word applies to their daily living.
